Frank Lynch University™ is dedicated to curing the shortage of 3,000,000 Math & Science teachers, and will become the world's leading university specializing in math, medicine, science, engineering and teacher preparation within the decade.
The problem is there are not enough qualified students who are US citizens!
For many years the number of US citizens graduating from high school with the skills necessary to learn these subjects has been decreasing.
And nearly half our children do not even graduate from high school.
Accordingly, the number of Americans studying math, medicine, science and engineering in college has been declining for more than ten years. Great science schools like CalTech and MIT report declining applications for admission. But the decline is not limited to scientific schools. Most of our state universities are experiencing larger freshman classes, and at the same time must offer more remedial reading classes in a failing attempt to bring students up to high school graduate level skills.
The course with the largest enrollment in state universities is remedial reading. The largest college major is women's issues.
The shocking fact is that the percentage of boys in college has been declining for more than a decade, and that very few women are enrolled in useful majors. Ask your daughters where a new graduate with a major in women's issues can find a job?
Can you guess which one of our trading partners has twice as many students enrolled in full-time college engineering studies as the US has?
Did you guess Red China? Wrong! The correct answer is a third world country: Mexico. The Associated Press just reported that Mexico has approximately 650,000 students in full time college engineering programs, or nearly twice the 360,000 engineering students in the US. Please absorb that sobering fact: Mexico has twice as many students in engineering programs as the US! If Mexico is a third world country, what are we becoming? Lou Dobbs complains about the failures of the Mexican government. Apparently even the Mexican government is able to do a better job at math and science education than our failed government.
But wait, it gets even worse. A considerable number of the engineering students in the US are non-citizens here on student visas who will take their skills back to China and India. After your tax dollars subsidize their education.
But back to the Communist nation whose daily Chinese language newspapers rant and rave every day about how dangerous America is, and how all the Chinese people must be prepared for the approaching final war against America. China's English language newspapers are for foreign propaganda, and omit the call to prepare for war against America.
Communist China has not twice as many, but more than twenty times as many college students studying mathematics, medicine, science and engineering as America. Red China now graduates as many students in these vital areas every year as the US produces total college graduates, including all varieties of college degrees, including women's issues (unbelievably, the most popular degree in America for several years) and the history of blue jeans (really, at the U. of Texas.
Communist China officially admits to having more than twice as many scientists and engineers as the US, but probably has even more. And they are good. When was the last time you bought a computer, or anything at all, that was not made in Communist China?
Ask your kids how smart are their Chinese classmates. Although there are currently few Chinese in America, they constitute a large portion of high school Valedictorians and Honor Roll Students.
How do you think US students rank among industrialized nations in math and science? Click here for a pop quiz.
And it is not just in test scores. We rank the same in life expectancy, infant mortality, and the likelihood of surviving your first heart attack. If the education is no good, everything else follows.
Our schools are at the bottom, dead last. 19 to 22 out of 22. Turkey has higher math scores than the US students. Malaysia tromps us every time. Korea makes us appear illiterate in math and science at every grade level. And Mexico has twice as many engineering students.
In the early grades our children are not as close to the bottom. But the higher the grade level, the older the child, the lower we rank compared to other nations! Our education system is broken. It is destroying our children and our nation.
I love America so much that I cry with shame while writing these numbers.
This is totally unacceptable and must be changed. Please join with me to help change our educational system.
We must restructure our schools so that every child in America will complete a free college education by age 17 for less money than our politicians and Professors now spend for the nation as a whole. With this plan, the nation as a whole will receive a free education. Without raising taxes. But your current professors won't like it. You see, the average professor in America teaches only 200 hours a year. That should be changed to 1,900 hours for the same salary. Why not? That is the same number of hours you work.
By separating the job of teaching from the very different jobs of research, book writing and paper publishing, we can cut the costs of college by 80%. Research is a good thing, but it should not be paid by your tuition dollars or with student loans which cripple our children's' future.
A major factor contributing to our problem is our shortage of 3,000,000 math and science teachers. More than half of our high schools do not offer a single course in physics. Many high schools have the shop teachers or coaches teaching the science classes. In other words, the least academically qualified staff are teaching the classes that are most important for the survival of our nation! As the late comedian Rodney Dangerfield was fond of saying when confronted with the utterly ridiculous: "Is this a great country, or what?" But sadly, this is no joke. Science taught by coaches. Unbelievable.
The first priority for Frank Lynch University™ is to create a revolutionary teachers college to prepare people to not only teach math, science and engineering in grades K-12, but more importantly, to infuse our children with admiration for, and the love of these vital subjects.
To accomplish these goals, which we believe are necessary for the survival of the USA as an industrialized nation, we are about to begin a national campaign which will combine fundraising for our new world class campus in Florida with a national awareness campaign to make the American public aware of these problems, and to encourage and to lead the way to restructuring our educational system so that millions of American students once again take world leadership in math, medicine, science and engineering.
America urgently, desperately needs 3,000,000 math and science teachers for grades K-12 or we shall become, without overstatement, a third world country.
Please help our beloved country and our precious children to have a future.
Email this address www.fluni.com to your entire address book, discuss this with your friends, and with your children's' teachers and their school principal, and please, please enroll in our math and science teachers college and our math, medicine science and engineering university.
Thanking you in advance for your love of our nation and our children,
Chancellor and President
